The Jasikan township is set to see major road infrastructure works following preparations to address critical water pipeline challenges along key streets in the municipality.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jasikan, Parke-Davis Madzigbe, disclosed that officials from the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA), Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and Limerica Construction Limited have undertaken an exercise to identify major water pipelines that could affect the planned construction of the township roads.
According to the MCE, the exercise was conducted at the request of the Member of Parliament for Buem and Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams.
He said the identification of the pipelines forms part of preparatory activities ahead of the commencement of construction works on the Jasikan township roads.
Mr Madzigbe explained that several major water pipelines are located beneath, or in close proximity to, permanent structures along some of the roads earmarked for construction.
These pipelines, he said, would have to be relocated to pave the way for the construction of U-drains and subsequent roadworks.
“The exercise was fruitful, and GWCL is mobilising to commence the necessary relocation works,” the MCE stated in a post on his Facebook page.
He noted, however, that the relocation exercise would affect some temporary structures along the identified routes.
The development means residents and businesses operating along sections of the affected roads could experience disruptions as the necessary preparatory and construction works get underway.
Mr Madzigbe appealed to residents, particularly owners and occupants of structures that may be affected, to cooperate with the authorities to facilitate the project.
He expressed appreciation to residents for their understanding and willingness to make way for the infrastructure development.
The MCE said the cooperation of residents would be essential to the successful implementation of the road project, which is expected to contribute to improved infrastructure and the transformation of the Jasikan township.
