Government will revoke LI 2462 when Parliament reassemble- GoldBod CEO

President John Dramani Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government will revoke Legislative Instrument (LI) 2462 immediately Parliament reconvenes for the Second Meeting of the First Session of the 9th Parliament, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi has revealed.
According to him, the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Akutiringa Ayine has given the indication and clarified that all legal processes paving way for the total revocation of the L.I is ready awaiting the reconvening of the legislature and the listening National Democratic Congress (NDC) will do the needful.

A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) including A Rocha Ghana, EcoConscious Citizens, Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, Nature and Development Foundation, Kasa Initiative Ghana, BRACE, Civic Response, and Tropenbos Ghana opposed the proposed amendment of the LI and called for its complete revocation.
They argue a full ban on mining in forest reserves is the only safeguard in protecting the country’s depleting biodiversity.
Mr Gyamfi who is also the National Communication Officer of the NDC gave the disclosure on Wednesday 21, April, 2025 during an interview on Channel One’s Point programme monitored by NR NEWS.

He told host of the programme, Bernard Koku Avle that: “L.I 2462 will be revoked by the NDC/Mahama government immediately Parliament resumes. There were legal issues as to whether or not it should be amended or revoked because there is a school of thought that revoking it could lead to a certain vacuum and that what had to be cured was the discretion or power given to the president to grant mining leases for people to mine in protected forest zones.

“Then there was another school of thought that said, look, let’s revoke the entire law, even if we get a vacuum, we can come up with a new L.I…but the L.I 2462 is poisonous. It t should go in its entirety. Those who made that argument have won, we are a listening government,”
