The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has underscored the critical role of reliable and affordable energy in driving Africa’s industrialisation and long-term economic transformation.
Speaking at the 3rd Africa Energy Technology Conference in Accra on Tuesday, the minister said the continent’s ambition to become a major industrial and economic force would largely depend on its ability to develop resilient and integrated energy systems capable of supporting manufacturing, innovation and trade.
He observed that Africa possesses enormous potential through its vast natural resources, youthful population and expanding market opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area, but stressed that unlocking these opportunities would require deliberate investments in energy infrastructure and stronger regional collaboration.
According to Mr Jinapor, Africa must move beyond its traditional role as an exporter of raw materials and focus on building value-driven economies anchored on industrial production, technology and sustainable energy development.
He said Ghana is already pursuing several initiatives aimed at improving energy security and advancing the country’s transition toward cleaner and more resilient energy sources.
