Improvement in the road networks in the Atwima Nwabiagya North constituency of the Ashanti region is the topmost priority of the Member of Parliament for the area, Frank Yeboah as he represents his people in the 9th Parliament.
Mr Frank Yeboah is one of the first term MPs in the 9th Parliament to pose questions to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza on what actions government was taking to fix poor roads in their constituencies.
On Friday February 28, 2025 Mr Yeboah asked the minister on the floor of Parliament when the Ministry plans to construct some critical roads in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality.
These includes the Offinso – Worapung road and the Amanfrom – Offinso road as well as the Adankwame – Ntensere road in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality.
In the Ministers responses, Mr Agbodza said some sections of the road are partially engineered whilst some sections are unengineered.
According to him the road is captured on the Department of Feeder Road (DFR) database as a 33 kilometer Offinso-Bonsua-Wawase feeder road 33 kilometer and a 14 kilometer BonsuaWorampong-Addaikrom roads respectively.
The Offinso-Bonsua-Worrunpong is 19km long and located in the Offinso and Atwima Nwabiagya Municipalities of the Ashanti region. It is a gravel road in poor surface condition.
The Roads and Highways minister explained that even though there is no programme on the Offinso-Bonsua-Wawase feeder road, the Bonsua-Worampong-Addaikrom road was awarded in two (2) phases including phase one which is the upgrading of Bonsua – Worampong- Addaikrom road and phase two which is the upgrading of Bonsua – Worampong – Addaikrom road.
With regards to work on the upgrading of Bonsua -Worampong – Addaikrom Road to bituminous surfacing, Mr Agbodza said the contract commenced on 13th January, 2021 for completion by 12th January, 2022, but the current progress of works is estimated at 7% physical completion.
The Contractor is currently not on site and works have stalled. The contract has been recommenckd for termination.
On the Upgrading of Bonsua – Worampong – Addaikrom Roadsto bituminous surfacing, the minister said the contract commenced on 6th November, 2020 for completion by 5th November, 2021.
The progress of works is estimated at 52% physical completion whiles the contractor currently not on site.
The 13 kilometer poor conditioned Adankvame-Ntensere feeder road is a gravel-surfaced engineered road is a connector which links the Kumasi-Barekese and the Kumusi-Sunyani highways located in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality of tl1e Ashanti region.
The road has been awarded for bituminous surfacing and works commenced on I 0th February, 2025 and is expected to be completed by 10th August, 2026.
The Minister assured that all contracts on the roads in the area have been recommended for termination and engineering design studies carried out by the end of the fourth quarter of 2025 to assess the appropriate intervention after which consideration would be given under the 2026 budget.
