Parliament on Thursday paid glowing tribute to the late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, with Members from both the Majority and Minority sides celebrating his distinguished service to Ghana, Africa and the international community.
Leading the tribute on the floor of the House, the Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, described Ambassador Gbeho as an accomplished diplomat, an exemplary public servant and an illustrious son of the Volta Region whose life’s work elevated Ghana’s standing on the global stage.
She recounted his remarkable career in diplomacy and public service, highlighting his numerous contributions to Ghana’s foreign policy, regional integration and international peace and security. According to her, Ambassador Gbeho served his country with exceptional distinction, earning admiration for his professionalism, integrity, wisdom and unwavering commitment to national service.
Hon. Gomashie said the late statesman dedicated his life to promoting peace, dialogue and cooperation, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire Ghana’s diplomatic corps and future generations of public servants.
Joining the tribute, the Member of Parliament for Anlo, Hon. Richard Kwami Sefe, fondly remembered Ambassador Gbeho as a man of calm disposition but remarkable impact.
He described the late diplomat as “cool but vibrant,” noting that behind his quiet demeanour was a visionary leader whose influence extended far beyond the diplomatic arena.
Hon. Sefe particularly commended Ambassador Gbeho for laying the foundation for a welfare scheme in Anlo that has continued to improve the welfare of National Democratic Congress (NDC) party faithfuls in the constituency, describing the initiative as a testament to his compassion and commitment to the wellbeing of his people.
Members from across the political divide subsequently took turns to eulogise the late statesman, describing him as a consummate diplomat, a patriot and a distinguished son of Ghana whose contributions transcended national boundaries.
The lawmakers unanimously praised Ambassador Gbeho’s humility, calm temperament and purposeful leadership, observing that while he was soft-spoken, his achievements spoke volumes both at home and abroad.
They noted that his contributions to diplomacy, governance and regional peace-building earned him respect across Africa and the wider international community, while his dedication to public service set a standard worthy of emulation.
Parliament extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and praying that Ambassador James Victor Gbeho’s legacy of integrity, humility and selfless service would continue to inspire leaders in Ghana, Africa and the world at large.
The late statesman will be accorded a state burial following a state funeral to be held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on Friday, July 31, 2026.
