The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced an expedited exercise to replace all Ghanaian passports that were lost or damaged during this week’s devastating floods, while extending its deepest sympathies to victims and families affected by the disaster.
In a press release issued in Accra on Friday, July 3, 2026, the Ministry acknowledged the widespread destruction caused by the floods, including the loss of lives and property, and expressed solidarity with all affected Ghanaians.
The Ministry said many citizens may have had their passports destroyed or misplaced during the floods and has therefore put in place special arrangements to facilitate their replacement.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to implement an expedited replacement of lost and damaged Ghanaian passports as a result of the floods,” the statement said.
Individuals whose passports were lost or damaged have been directed to contact the Ministry on 055 936 8563 between Friday, July 3 and Friday, July 17, 2026, to begin the replacement process.
Affected persons are required to provide their names, dates of birth and gender as contained in the lost or damaged passports, as well as their current telephone numbers to enable officials to process their applications.
The Ministry assured the public that it intends to replace all affected passports within one week of processing the requests.
It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government efforts to assist flood victims, stressing that the intervention forms part of measures to ease the burden on citizens whose travel documents were destroyed in the disaster.
The latest announcement comes in the wake of one of the country’s worst flooding incidents in recent years, following hours of torrential rainfall that inundated several communities, particularly in Accra and its environs. The floods claimed lives, displaced families and caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and public infrastructure.
Government agencies have since intensified relief and recovery efforts, with several institutions rolling out emergency interventions to support affected residents. The Ministry’s decision to fast-track passport replacements is expected to provide timely relief to citizens who require valid travel documents for work, education, medical treatment and other essential purposes.
