The Northern Caucus of the Minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament has demanded the immediate resignation of Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo over what they describe as “reckless and divisive comments” against some residents of the Greater Accra Region.
According to the caucus, the Minister’s alleged remarks have heightened tensions and undermined national unity, particularly among persons from northern Ghana residing in Accra and other parts of the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday May 6, 2026, signed by Second Deputy Minority Whip and MP for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, the Minority caucus expressed disappointment in the Minister, insisting that public office holders must promote inclusiveness and national cohesion rather than statements capable of deepening ethnic divisions.
It maintained that the comments attributed to the Regional Minister were unacceptable and unbefitting of her office, emphasising that Ghana’s democratic stability and peaceful coexistence depend largely on responsible leadership and respect for all ethnic groups.
They warned that failure by the government to act swiftly could create unnecessary mistrust and resentment among citizens, especially the youth.
The MPs further called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene immediately and ensure appropriate sanctions are applied to preserve national harmony.
The caucus also appealed to the general public to remain calm and avoid acts that could escalate tensions, while lawful and constitutional means are pursued to address the matter.
They reaffirmed their commitment to defending the dignity and rights of all Ghanaians regardless of ethnic or regional background, insisting that no Ghanaian should feel marginalised in any part of the country.
The Minority Caucus said it would continue to monitor developments closely and take further parliamentary actions if necessary.
