Better Days Ahead, PRINPAG Assures Members on World Press Freedom Day

The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has assured its members of improved prospects for the media industry, urging resilience and responsible journalism as the world marks World Press Freedom Day 2026.
In a statement issued on May 3 to commemorate the occasion, PRINPAG joined the global community in observing the day under the theme “Shaping a Future at Peace,” while adopting a sub-theme focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism.
The Association commended its members for their dedication and professionalism, noting that their commitment to ethical journalism continues to play a vital role in strengthening Ghana’s democracy and maintaining public trust in the media.
PRINPAG highlighted the increasing influence of artificial intelligence in the media space, describing it as both an opportunity and a challenge. While acknowledging AI’s potential to improve efficiency and access to information, the Association cautioned against risks such as misinformation, manipulation, and ethical concerns.

It therefore urged journalists and publishers to prioritise accuracy, fairness, and editorial judgment in their work.
The statement also underscored the critical role of the media in promoting accountability and good governance whiles encouraging members to continue providing objective and balanced scrutiny of leadership across all sectors, emphasizing that such responsibility must be carried out with integrity and without fear or favour.
President of PRINPAG, David Tamakloe, praised members for their resilience despite challenges including economic pressures, safety concerns, and technological disruptions. He assured members that his outfit is actively working to improve their welfare through strategic initiatives such as advocacy, partnerships, and capacity-building programmes.
He expressed confidence that ongoing efforts would strengthen the sustainability of the media industry, urging them to remain hopeful and committed to their professional duties.
PRINPAG also acknowledged the difficulties confronting media practitioners but reiterated its belief that the sector is poised for recovery and growth. The Association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting members and safeguarding press freedom in an evolving digital landscape.
As part of the commemoration, PRINPAG called on journalists to uphold ethical standards and adapt responsibly to emerging technologies to preserve the integrity of journalism in Ghana.
