GCMC Positioned as Key Driver of Ghana’s Green Transition Agenda – MD

The Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) has reaffirmed its strategic role in advancing Ghana’s green transition agenda, particularly through the promotion of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a cleaner energy source.

Managing Director of the company, Mankir Abdul-Rahman, made this known when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy visited the firm’s facility in Accra on Tuesday April 21, 2026.

He described GCMC as a “strategic national asset” whose operations are critical to achieving the government’s target of 50 percent LPG penetration by 2030.

“We believe as a strategic national asset in championing the green transition, it is good and proper that Ghana Cylinder is retooled so that we can drive the agenda,” he said.

Mr. Abdul-Rahman highlighted ongoing efforts by the company to align its operations with environmentally friendly practices, including the adoption of LPG-powered forklifts to reduce carbon emissions.

“Because we are promoting LPG and we want to reduce our carbon footprint, we insist that all forklift equipment in GCMC… be LPG-powered,” he noted.

He further underscored the importance of cylinder refurbishment in supporting sustainability, explaining that salvaging usable cylinders reduces costs and limits waste.

“New cylinders are expensive. If there are any cylinders that can be salvaged and put back into the system, it comes as a cost saving to the government,” he said.

The Managing Director also reiterated GCMC’s commitment to safety, adherence to international standards, and collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure the success of the country’s energy transition efforts.
