From Judge Koboo to Edziban: Kwame Dzokoto Dies at 51, Leaving a Taste of Ghanaian Life on Our Screens

Ghana’s entertainment industry has lost one of its familiar faces, as actor, comedian and broadcaster Seth Kwame Dzokoto, famed for bringing laughter to Efiewura as Judge Koboo and celebrating Ghanaian cuisine on TV3’s Edziban, has reportedly died after collapsing during a radio programme in Tarkwa.

Dzokoto, 51, reportedly died on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after collapsing during a radio programme at Owass FM in Tarkwa, in the Western Region.

Reports indicate that he was rushed to a hospital in Tarkwa but was pronounced dead on arrival. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been independently confirmed.

His passing marks the end of a career that stretched across television, comedy, radio broadcasting, voice-over work and politics, leaving behind a body of work that connected him with audiences in different parts of Ghana.

He served Ghana a taste of itself

For many viewers, Dzokoto was more than Judge Koboo, the recognisable character that helped make Efiewura a household favourite. He was also the face of Edziban, TV3’s food and tourism programme that took audiences into Ghana’s culinary world.

At a time when food content was not yet a dominant feature of social media, Edziban brought local dishes, eateries and food culture into the homes of television viewers. Through the programme, Dzokoto helped make Ghanaian cuisine and the people behind it part of mainstream television entertainment.

His work on the two programmes revealed different sides of his screen presence: the comic performer who entertained audiences through a memorable fictional role and the presenter who explored the country’s food culture.

That range became a defining feature of his career, which also included comedy, advertising voice-overs and radio broadcasting.

Dzokoto worked with stations including Skyy Power FM in Takoradi and Hello FM in Kumasi, building a career that extended beyond the television screen.

From entertainment to politics

His public life was not confined to show business. Dzokoto joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and contested the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat in the 2016 general election, but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s George Mireku Duker.

He later pursued further academic development, graduating from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College in August 2025 with a master’s degree in Defence and International Politics.

His continued involvement in filmmaking was also evident in his participation in The 70 Slate: A Cinematic Celebration of Ghana at 70, a three-film project involving Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s Sparrow Studios and Peter Sedufia’s OldFilm Productions, planned to commemorate Ghana’s 70th anniversary of independence in 2027.

Reports of his death have also renewed attention to his health after images of him looking unwell circulated on social media in recent weeks. He had reportedly spoken publicly about health challenges and recovery from surgery in September 2026.

For audiences who knew him through Efiewura, he will remain Judge Koboo. For viewers who followed Edziban, he will also be remembered as the presenter who brought Ghana’s food and local culinary experiences to the screen.

His career crossed entertainment, broadcasting and public life. His reported death at 51 leaves a familiar presence missing from Ghana’s media landscape.
