Ghana Cylinder Company Targets Doubling Production as Retooling Plan Gains Momentum

The Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) has set an ambitious target to double its daily production capacity as part of efforts to revitalise operations and strengthen its role in the country’s energy sector.

Managing Director of GCMC, Mankir Abdul-Rahman, disclosed this when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy paid a working visit to the company’s facility in Accra on Tuesday.

According to him, ongoing plans to retool the state-owned company will significantly enhance output, increasing production from 1,500 cylinders per day to 3,000 once completed.

“If we are able to get retooled, our capacity is going to increase from 1,500 cylinders a day to 3,000 cylinders a day,” he stated.

Mr. Abdul-Rahman explained that the retooling exercise, expected to take between eight to ten months, forms part of a broader strategy to reposition GCMC as a viable and competitive player in the LPG value chain.

He revealed that government, through the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has secured $6 million to support the revitalisation programme following recommendations by an Investment Planning Committee.

The Managing Director noted that despite operating below full capacity, the company has recorded significant improvements in output, scaling up from 6,700 refurbished cylinders in 2024 to over 57,000 in 2025.

He expressed optimism that the expansion would not only boost production but also improve efficiency and support national energy objectives.
