The National Deputy Women’s Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dzifa Tegah, has declared her intention to contest for the position of Deputy National General Secretary, promising to strengthen grassroots administration, improve internal communication and make the party’s national secretariat more responsive to members.
She said her decision was driven by a commitment to the party’s grassroots, whom she described as the backbone of the NDC and the force that sustains its structures through both electoral victories and difficult political periods.
Announcing her bid at a press conference attended by party leaders, newly elected constituency executives, members and media representatives, Hon. Tegah said the party’s future effectiveness would depend on how well it organised, communicated with and supported its members at every level.
Drawing on her experience as National Deputy Women’s Organiser and former constituency communication officer, she said her engagement with party structures across branches, constituencies and regions had given her a practical understanding of the administrative and organisational demands of the NDC.
She argued that although the party had established structures and a strong membership base, there was room to improve administrative efficiency, communication, member mobilisation and inclusive participation in decision-making.
According to her, the Deputy General Secretary’s position was central to the effective coordination of the party, requiring strong collaboration between the national secretariat and regional, constituency and branch executives.
She maintained that the office must go beyond routine administration to ensure that party structures received timely information, members’ concerns were addressed and the organisation remained connected to its grassroots base.
“Electoral victories are not secured on election day alone,” she stressed, arguing that success depended on sustained planning, effective coordination and disciplined organisational work in the months and years leading up to an election.
Hon. Tegah said her experience in communication and constituency administration, coupled with her understanding of grassroots mobilisation, positioned her to contribute to a more efficient and responsive secretariat.
If elected, she pledged to improve access to the national secretariat for party members and executives nationwide, strengthen the handling of grievances and ensure the proper maintenance of party records and documentation.
She also promised to promote greater representation of young women and men in party leadership, stressing the importance of creating opportunities for emerging leaders to contribute to the NDC’s organisational development.
Her campaign, she indicated, would focus on strengthening internal structures, improving coordination and building a party administration capable of responding effectively to the needs of members.
Hon. Tegah said these reforms would be critical to consolidating the NDC’s organisational strength and preparing it for the 2028 general election and future electoral contests.
