Ghana Signs Gas Production Expansion Term Sheet with Eni/Vitol

The Government of Ghana has signed a key term sheet with Eni Ghana E&P and Vitol Upstream Ghana Limited aimed at expanding domestic gas production under the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project.

The agreement, which was also signed in collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), marks a major step toward strengthening Ghana’s energy security and advancing the country’s upstream petroleum development agenda.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Emeafa Hardcastle, witnessed the signing ceremony on behalf of the Commission.

The event was led by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, and the Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson.

According to officials, the term sheet establishes a clear commercial framework to support the development of new gas infrastructure under the OCTP Non-Associated Gas Upgrade Project.

The agreement reflects collaboration between government institutions, regulators and industry stakeholders in efforts to boost domestic gas supply and improve energy reliability in Ghana.

The planned expansion project will be anchored on the development of the Gye Nyame field, the installation of a booster compressor and the introduction of a new non-associated gas system on the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

Officials say the upgrade has the potential to increase gas production capacity by up to 350 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) by 2028.

The development is expected to support Ghana’s growing energy demands, enhance power generation capacity and contribute to long-term economic growth through increased local gas supply.
