As part of this effort, the Paris Mission collaborated with Harmattan Birds, Club Drouais of France, and Bukom Boxing Gym of Ghana in a series of engagements aimed at strengthening ties between Ghana and France through boxing and youth empowerment.

The Embassy recently received a 14-member delegation comprising representatives of the three organisations during a courtesy call on Ghana’s Ambassador to France, Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong, at the Chancery in Paris.
The delegation, led by King David Neequaye alongside Manuel Argentin, engaged the Ambassador in discussions focused on sports collaboration, cultural exchange and mentorship opportunities for young athletes in both countries.

Ambassador Mavis Frimpong underscored the importance of sports diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting Ghana’s global image. She noted that one of the key responsibilities of the Mission is to champion Ghana’s interests abroad while creating platforms that project the country’s talents, culture and excellence.
The Ambassador highlighted Ghana’s rich boxing heritage, paying tribute to legendary boxers including Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey, whose achievements placed Ghana firmly on the global sporting map.

According to her, boxing represents the resilience, discipline and determination of the Ghanaian people and continues to serve as a powerful tool for inspiring the youth.
The delegation also extended an invitation to the Ambassador to attend the “Gala de Boxe: Road to Ghana 2026” event held in Dreux, France, as part of efforts to deepen sporting cooperation between the two countries.

The event, which took place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, brought together Ghanaian and French boxers in a display of skill, discipline and cultural exchange. Ambassador Frimpong, who was welcomed by local authorities including the Mayor of Dreux, witnessed the growing partnership between the sporting communities of Ghana and France.
One of the highlights of the evening was the impressive performance of Mathias Ashitey of Bukom Boxing Gym, who secured victory in the 52kg category, drawing admiration from spectators and officials alike.
The Embassy noted that the engagement reflected Ghana’s commitment to using sports as an instrument for diplomacy, international cooperation and youth development.
The successful collaboration concluded with a follow-up visit to the Mission on Monday, April 27, 2026, during which the delegation presented a trophy to Ambassador Frimpong in appreciation of her support for sports diplomacy initiatives.

Receiving the honour, the Ambassador congratulated the athletes and organisers for their discipline and outstanding performances, encouraging them to continue serving as ambassadors of Ghana through sports.
She reaffirmed the Mission’s readiness to support initiatives that strengthen Ghana-France relations while creating opportunities for young talents to thrive on the international stage.
