President John Dramani Mahama has officially inaugurated the SheaPark Resource Hub at the Wa Naa’s Palace, marking a major step towards economic revitalisation and industrial development in the Upper West Region.
The initiative is aimed at transforming the region’s shea sector through industrialisation and value addition, positioning Upper West as a strategic player in Ghana’s broader agro-industrial transformation drive.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, who championed the project, described the launch as a landmark moment for both the region and the country. He said the SheaPark Hub offers a sustainable pathway to revive the local economy through community-based and inclusive development.
According to Mr Bagbin, the project aligns with key national development frameworks such as the Big Push, the 24-Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development agenda, all of which seek to strengthen local production and expand Ghana’s export base.
He noted that the concept reflects President Mahama’s vision of building a self-reliant, industrially competitive economy driven by integrated value chains and a skilled workforce.
President Mahama, in his remarks, stressed the importance of processing and adding value to local raw materials as a strategy for job creation, income growth and poverty reduction, particularly in underserved regions.
The event brought together traditional authorities, including the Paramount Chief of Wa, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, as well as Members of Parliament, government officials, regional and local government leaders, and other stakeholders.
The SheaPark Resource Hub is expected to stimulate growth in the shea industry, boost export opportunities and reinforce Ghana’s push towards inclusive and sustainable industrialisation.
