Afram Plains North NDC Backs Betty Krosbi Mensah for National Women’s Organiser

The Afram Plains North Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have rallied support for former Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Betty Eyram Krosbi Mensah, in her bid to become the party’s National Women’s Organiser, touting her record of women’s empowerment and community development.

The constituency executives also dismissed what they described as “mischievous and misleading” claims that Hon. Krosbi Mensah’s defeat in the 2024 parliamentary election was the result of poor performance during her tenure as MP.

In a statement issued on August 19, 2026 and signed by the Constituency Chairman, Mr Prosper Galinor, the executives said such claims were a disservice to the people of Afram Plains North, particularly given the interventions undertaken by the former MP while the NDC was in opposition.

The executives argued that Hon. Krosbi Mensah’s record demonstrated that effective leadership was not dependent solely on political power, but on the ability to identify the needs of communities and respond to them with practical interventions.

They said her experience in Afram Plains North had provided her with a strong grassroots understanding of the challenges confronting women, young people and vulnerable groups—experience they believe positions her strongly for the national women’s leadership role.

A record of investing in women

According to the constituency executives, Hon. Krosbi Mensah implemented a range of initiatives aimed at improving the economic and social wellbeing of women during her tenure as MP.

These included the provision of freezers to some branch women organisers and traders to support and expand their businesses, as well as loan facilities for all branch women organisers in the constituency to establish or strengthen their livelihoods.

The former MP also supported hairdressers with dryers and seamstresses with sewing machines to improve their trades, while sponsoring female youth to acquire vocational skills in areas including hairdressing and dressmaking.

The executives said she also paid hospital bills for numerous women requiring medical assistance and provided financial and material support to widows and persons with disabilities.

She further supported women at the secondary and tertiary levels of education and facilitated ICT training for young women and the youth generally.

Health interventions

The constituency executives also highlighted what they described as significant contributions to healthcare delivery in the constituency.

They cited the provision of an incubator, delivery beds and other hospital beds to the Presbyterian Hospital in Donkorkrom and other health facilities in Afram Plains North.

According to the statement, Hon. Krosbi Mensah also supported the completion of abandoned clinics at Faso Bator and Abotanso, which were initiated under the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama in 2015.

The executives said the interventions were intended to improve access to primary healthcare, particularly for women and children in communities where access to health facilities remains a challenge.

“She invests in women”

The constituency executives said the former MP’s interventions reflected a broader understanding of women’s empowerment as extending beyond political rhetoric to providing women with the skills, capital, equipment, healthcare and educational opportunities necessary to improve their livelihoods.

“A National Women’s Organizer must understand the realities confronting women at the grassroots. She must understand that women need access to skills, capital, equipment, healthcare, education and sustainable livelihoods,” the statement said.

They argued that Hon. Krosbi Mensah had already demonstrated such an understanding through her interventions in Afram Plains North.

“Her record shows that she does not merely speak about women’s empowerment, she invests in women,” the executives stated.

They said many grassroots members and constituency executives who witnessed her work remained convinced that she could replicate the experience across the country if given greater responsibility and resources.

Reject claims over 2024 defeat

The constituency executives also drew a parallel between Hon. Krosbi Mensah’s 2024 parliamentary defeat and the defeat suffered by the NDC in the 2016 general election under former President John Dramani Mahama.

They argued that electoral defeat should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of poor performance or incompetence.

According to them, the subsequent return of Mr Mahama to the presidency demonstrated that electoral outcomes could not, by themselves, be used as the definitive measure of a politician’s performance.

The executives therefore urged NDC members to assess Hon. Krosbi Mensah’s candidature based on her record, experience and grassroots engagement rather than what they described as attempts to discredit her with misleading narratives.

Call for nationwide support

The Afram Plains North Constituency said the contest for National Women’s Organiser should be viewed as a choice about the future direction of the NDC women’s wing rather than merely a contest between individuals.

They described Hon. Krosbi Mensah as experienced, compassionate and a proven grassroots leader with a demonstrated record of empowering women.

“We believe that with the collective support of the party, she can build a stronger, more economically empowered and more united women’s wing for the task ahead,” they said.

The executives consequently appealed to women organisers and other members of the NDC across the country to support Hon. Betty Eyram Krosbi Mensah in her bid to become National Women’s Organiser.
