The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament is set to hold a press conference today, Monday, January 26, 2026, to present its assessment of the first year in office of President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
The event, themed “Holding Government to Account: A Year of Active and Responsible Minority Scrutiny in Ghana’s 9th Parliament,” will take place at the Justice DF Annan Auditorium in Parliament.
The press conference is expected to be addressed by the Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, alongside key members of the caucus, including Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu and Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib.

All the other 82 members of the caucus are expected to be in attendance.
The Minority is expected to outline what it describes as major policy failures, governance gaps, and economic challenges under the Mahama-led administration over the past year. Likely areas of focus include the rising cost of living, exchange rate pressures, fuel and utility price increases, public debt management, and delays in key infrastructure and social intervention programmes.
The caucus is also expected to raise concerns about youth unemployment, business confidence, and the pace of economic recovery, while questioning the government’s fiscal discipline and transparency in public spending.
In addition, the Minority is likely to touch on governance and accountability issues, including what it may describe as weak oversight, politicisation of state institutions, foreign policy failures, and delays in the implementation of key reforms promised by the NDC during the 2024 election campaign, especially the 24-Hour economy policy and the Women Development Bank.
According to the caucus, the press conference forms part of its constitutional mandate to hold the executive to account and to provide alternative policy perspectives in the national interest.
The Minority caucus is also expected use the platform to reaffirm its commitment to constructive opposition and to outline what it considers necessary policy actions to stabilise the economy, protect livelihoods, and restore public confidence in governance.
