Natural Resources Ministry Moves to Revoke Licences of 50 Large-Scale Mining Companies

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced plans to revoke the licences of fifty (50) large-scale mining companies over various regulatory breaches.

The decision follows a rigorous review of large-scale mining operations currently being undertaken by a special committee established for that purpose. The ongoing assessment is examining compliance levels within the sector to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations and operational standards.

According to the Ministry, the review was initiated at the instance of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and forms part of broader government efforts to sanitise the mining industry.

The Ministry said the special committee will, in due course, publish the final list of companies whose licences are to be revoked.

“This move underscores government’s commitment to promoting safe, responsible and sustainable mining practices,” the Ministry noted, adding that the exercise is intended to ensure that mining activities at all levels are conducted in line with approved protocols and due process.

The planned revocation is part of a wider reform agenda aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight, protecting the environment and restoring public confidence in Ghana’s mining sector.

The statement was issued by the Communications Directorate of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
