President Mahama Announces Start of Feasibility Studies and Design for Green City Project

President John Mahama says the Minister of Finance is set to make budgetary provisions to fund the feasibility studies and design of the Green City project announced by his government.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Multi-purpose Solar Energy Project at the Dawa Industrial Park in Agotor on Thursday, November 6, President Mahama said the Green City will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a modern drainage system, improved sanitation, dedicated commercial districts and regulated markets, warning that ‘kiosks’ will not be allowed.

“With the kind of gridlock that is beginning to happen in Accra with ease, this would be a new city that would attract investment, it will attract tourism, it will be a smart city,  it will have a modern drainage system, it will have good sanitation, and there will be no kiosks”

“Everything that is happening here is being integrated into the green digital city that we have envisioned for our dear nation, Ghana. The feasibility study and the design for this city will begin by the end of this year, and the  Ministry of Finance is already making budgetary provision for the designs and feasibility studies,” he said.

He also explained that the proposed Green City will stretch from the Saglemi Housing Estate through the Bondase Military Range, linking the Volta and Eastern Regions.

“Now, all that is happening here is not in isolation because the city stretches from here, Dawa Industrial Park, including the Saglemi Housing Estate, through Bondase Military Range into Volta and Eastern regions” he stated.

The proposed city would be developed over 20 years in four phases, with the first phase expected to begin before the end of 2028.
