Illegal miners polluting the River Mansi at Ehyireso near Prestea had their operations halted on Thursday morning when the Bogoso Blue Water Guards swooped in to stop them.
The eight-member task force chased the miners from the site and set fire to the equipment they were using, including changfan machines that had been mounted directly on the river.
Allan Acheampong, leader of the group, told Accra based Channel One News’ Akwasi Agyei Annim that the raid took place during their routine patrols along the river. He said the intervention was necessary to protect water resources in the area from further destruction.
