Ministers Idle due to Non-Releases of Funds- Afenyo-Markin to Finance Minister

Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has called on the Minister of Finance, Dr Casiel Ato Baah Forson to release funds approved by the House to ministers of state for the performance of their mandates.

According to the Effutu lawmaker, President Mahama’s ministers are sitting idle in their various ministries with no work to do due to the non releases of funds to them.

“Release money to your ministers. Your ministers are not working, your ministers are idle,” the minority stated.

Mr Afenyo-Markin made the call on the floor of Parliament on Thursday July 31, 2025 in a concluding debate on the 2025 Mid-Year Budget presented by the finance minister.

He also urged government to pay contractors for the works done across the country and stated that, the Kumasi-Accra Highway has become a “death trap” due to government’s failure to pay contractors.

He urged the government to pursue reforms at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) rather than the imposition of obnoxious taxes.

The Minority leader accused the Mahama-led administration of reversing key developmental gains and plunging the country into economic stagnation.

He alleged that the government, which he described as the “Apostles of Reset,” has undermined Ghana’s economic foundation and international reputation.

“We initiated the transformational 1D1F to create jobs to boost local production in every corner of Ghana. The ‘Apostles of Reset’ have murdered this industrial revolution and condemned these initiatives to economic stagnation.

“We launched the Agenda 111 Hospitals to heal our people and create a foundation for medical tourism. The Apostles of Reset have killed this infrastructure expansion, leaving communities without hope for quality healthcare.

“We pioneered planting for food and jobs to feed our people, to ensure food security and create agricultural wealth. The so-called Appstles of Reset have slaughtered these agricultural transformations, leaving farmers abandoned and food security compromised,” he stated.

He also accused the NDC administrtion of promoting illegal mining rather than genuine economic transformation.

“All they know is the ‘GoldBod, GoldBod, GoldBod’ to promote galamsey,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin also accused the administration of damaging Ghana’s diplomatic relations and international credibility, asserting that the country had become isolated on the global stage under the current leadership.
