The Minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament has raised grave concerns over the alleged cancellation of the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative introduced by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration and is calling for a phased-out transition period to protect ongoing investments.
Responding to an urgent question in Parliament on Tuesday regarding the specific incentives and investment promotion packages being implemented to attract private sector investment following the cancellation of 1D1F, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, revealed that there is currently no policy under the name 1D1F.
However, addressing a press conference on Thursday, July 10, 2025, the Ranking Member on the Trade and Industry Committee of Parliament, Michael Okyere Baafi, emphasized the need for what he described as a “proper transition period” for the policy to safeguard its gains.
According to him, a total of 322 projects under the 1D1F initiative are at various stages of completion, with 169 already completed.
He explained that the projects comprise both greenfield and brownfield businesses and disclosed that the country had invested approximately $1.2 billion in the programme.
Mr. Baafi who is also the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, assured that the Minority Caucus is ready to engage the Ministry of Trade on a structured transition approach to ensure that the investments made under the 1D1F initiative are not wasted.
