The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing transparency, accountability, and sustainable resource governance across Africa as the continent commemorates the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the African Union (AU).

In a message posted on its official social media handles to mark AU Day, ACEP stated that as Africa celebrates “63 years of unity, integration, and development,” the organisation remains committed to promoting responsible management of the continent’s natural resources for sustainable and inclusive growth.
“As Africa marks 63 years of unity, integration, and development, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing transparency, accountability, and sustainable resource governance for a prosperous and resilient continent,” the statement read.
The policy think tank further extended goodwill messages to Africans across the continent, saying, “Happy AU Day from all of us at ACEP.”
Founded in Ghana, ACEP has over the years positioned itself as one of Africa’s leading voices on energy, extractive industry governance, and public accountability. The organisation has consistently advocated policies aimed at ensuring Africa’s vast natural resources contribute meaningfully to economic transformation and sustainable development.
The AU Day celebration marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The OAU later transformed into the African Union in 2002 with a renewed focus on continental integration, peace, governance, and economic development.
This year’s commemoration comes at a time when African institutions and civil society organisations are increasingly calling for stronger governance systems, improved accountability, and sustainable management of natural resources to support the continent’s Agenda 2063 aspirations.
