Ghana Embassy in France Pursues Partnerships to Boost Women’s Sports Development

Ghana’s Embassy in France has stepped up efforts to promote women’s sports development through international collaboration, following a high-level meeting with key stakeholders in Paris.

The meeting, held on April 20, 2026, brought together Ghana’s Ambassador to France, Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong, alongside representatives including Bruno Lalande, President of Women’s Sports Magazine, to explore strategic partnerships aimed at advancing women’s sports in Ghana.

In her remarks, Ambassador Frimpong underscored the importance of strengthening women’s sports as part of Ghana’s broader national development agenda, highlighting the need for increased investment, visibility, and structured growth in the sector.

Discussions centred on practical steps to deepen collaboration, including plans to develop a formal proposal by June 2026 outlining specific initiatives and opportunities for investment in Ghana’s women’s sports ecosystem.

A major highlight of the talks was a proposal to establish a sports academy in Ghana to identify and nurture young female talent. The initiative is expected to provide structured training, skills development, and access to competitive platforms to prepare athletes for international competitions.

Both sides also agreed to pursue investor engagement to support the proposed academy and ensure its long-term sustainability.

The meeting further resolved to undertake comprehensive research into top Ghanaian female athletes across major sporting disciplines. The exercise is intended to map the country’s talent pool, showcase success stories, and identify priority areas for targeted support.

Participants also examined challenges facing women’s sports in Ghana, including limited funding and low media visibility, while exploring opportunities for sponsorship, strategic partnerships, and enhanced media engagement.

There was a shared emphasis on expanding grassroots programmes to encourage greater participation among young girls and build a sustainable pipeline of talent.

The meeting ended with a commitment to deepen collaboration between Ghanaian stakeholders and international partners, with a follow-up session scheduled for June 2026 to assess progress and outline the next phase of implementation.
