Selina Asuka Declares Bid for Oti Deputy Women’s Organiser Slot as NDC Internal Elections Gather Momentum

A leading grassroots mobiliser within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Buem Constituency, Selina Abena Asuka, has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of Deputy Women’s Organiser for the Oti Region, joining the growing list of aspirants positioning themselves ahead of the party’s ongoing internal elections.

Ms. Asuka announced her bid in a Facebook post, highlighting her experience within the party’s women’s wing and her contribution to mobilisation efforts at various levels.

“I, Selina Abena Asuka, hereby declare my intention to contest for the position of Deputy Women’s Organizer for Oti Region,” she stated, adding that her journey from branch-level organiser to Constituency Deputy Women’s Organiser, and currently Women’s Organiser for Buem Constituency, has equipped her with the necessary experience for the role.

She expressed confidence in her ability to contribute meaningfully to the party’s growth, noting that her involvement in women mobilisation has supported past electoral successes.

“I believe my experience in women mobilization has contributed to our past electoral successes… I am confident that my skills and experience make me a suitable candidate,” she added, while appealing for the support of delegates.

NDC Internal Elections Underway

Ms. Asuka’s declaration comes at a time when the NDC is undertaking a nationwide internal electoral process aimed at reorganising the party from the grassroots to the national level.

The party has outlined a structured electoral roadmap that begins at the branch level and progresses through constituency and regional elections before culminating in the election of national executives.

At the constituency level, thousands of delegates elect executives including constituency organisers and women’s organisers, forming a critical base for party mobilisation. These elections feed into regional contests, where positions such as Regional Women’s Organiser and Deputy Women’s Organiser are decided.

The process eventually leads to the national delegates congress, where top leadership positions are filled, reinforcing the party’s democratic structure and internal accountability.

Political analysts note that the decentralised nature of internal elections in Ghana’s major parties, including the NDC, is designed to strengthen grassroots participation and legitimacy within party structures.

Role of the Women’s Wing

The Women’s Wing of the NDC remains a key organ of the party, responsible for mobilising female membership, driving grassroots campaigns, and promoting gender inclusion in political participation.

Positions such as Deputy Women’s Organiser at the regional level play a strategic role in coordinating activities across constituencies and supporting national campaign efforts.

Building on Grassroots Experience

Ms. Asuka’s candidacy is anchored on her progression through the ranks of the party especially at the constituency, a pathway often encouraged within the NDC’s organisational framework.

Her background—from branch-level organiser to a constituency leadership role—reflects the party’s emphasis on grassroots experience as a foundation for higher responsibilities.

With the Oti Region expected to be a competitive arena in the internal elections, her entry adds to what is shaping up to be a closely contested race for women’s leadership positions.

As the NDC’s internal elections kicks off from the branch, constituency toward the regional and national stages, the outcomes are expected to shape the party’s organisational strength and readiness ahead of the 2028 general elections.

For aspirants like Selina Asuka, the race represents not only a leadership opportunity but also a chance to influence the direction of women’s mobilisation and political participation within the party.
