Bawumia unveils agriculture mechanization initiative for rural farmers in Ghana

The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled his plans to support agricultural constituencies, including Asunafo South, with initiatives aimed at modernizing farming practices.

Dr Bawumia announced the launch of a District Agriculture Mechanization Center Programme, designed to provide farmers with essential tools and equipment to enhance mechanized farming efforts.

Speaking to party supporters at Sankore in the Asunafo South Constituency on Thursday, October 31, he emphasized that through this programme, farmers will have increased access to modern farming tools, which will improve productivity and efficiency.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the vital role farmers play in the nation’s economy and acknowledged their contributions to Ghana’s food security and development, noting that this support is a way to empower local farmers and bolster the agricultural sector.

“Agriculture is going to be my number one priority. Over 60% of Ghanaians are farmers, whether you are in the Northern, Southern or Eastern part of Ghana. Ghana’s growth largely depends on farmers, and they have to be financially stable.

“So I want to support farmers with the necessary logistics including technology, irrigation, and finances to help boost their agricultural businesses.

“We will continue the good works we have been doing in the cocoa sector. The DRIP project is ongoing in the various districts where roads are being constructed.

“I will also introduce the District Agriculture Mechanization Center where I will distribute farming implements in the districts including tractors, hoes, harvesters, fertilisers, chemicals and planters for farmers in every district.”
