John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has charged members of the media fraternity and the security services across the country who have the privilege of casting early votes on Monday December 2 ahead of the general election on December 7, 2024 to set the ball rolling by voting massively for change.
He indicated that Ghanaians have given opportunity to media personnel and men and women in uniform to score the match needed first goal of change with their thumps on Monday December 2 for the rest of the citizenry to follow on December 7.
According to Mr Mahama, all media practitioners and security officers have families like all Ghanaians who buy from the same market and are suffering from the mismanagement of the current Akufo-Addo and Bawumia NPP administration.
“I urge them to set the ball rolling by voting for change, they belong to families, they buy from the same market, all of us are suffering the mismanagement of this NPP administration, and so Ghanaians have given them the penalty to kick the first goal, and so the security services and the media like you, please score that goal for us. Score that goal of change so that Ghanaians would follow on 7th December”, Mr Mahama urged.
The former president also encouraged members of the security services to exhibit acts of professionalism and neutrality wherever they are posted to provide security for the polls in service to God and mother Ghana.
“I also expect that, they would act professionally and be neutral in this contest, it is about the future of our country, and so wherever they are posted, they should go and do their best for God and country”, he admonished.
Mr Mahama also appeal to floating voters not to sit on the fence but get involved in the decision making process to avoid regrets in future.
“My appeal especially goes to the floating voters, you know, to tell them, don’t sit on the fence because this is about you. If you refuse to go and vote, others would take the decision for you, and when they take the decision for you, it would affect you, and if it affects you, it’s because you didn’t go and vote” he said.
President Mahama said these his concluding remarks when he took his turn on the Presidential Encounters series hosted by the national broadcaster, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Friday evening, November 29, 2024.
The encounter coincided with the 66th birthday of the former President.
Mr Mahama elaborated on his vision for the country as captured in the NDC manifesto as he answers questions from hosts of the programme and audiences on different sectors including education, women and children empowerment, oil and gas, natural resources and, the environment and sanitation, climate change, illegal mining or galamsay, the economy, sports development, the flagship 24-hour economy policy among others.
