Betty Krosbi Mensah Hails Pamela Graham’s Historic Appointment as Ghana’s First Female Auditor-General

National Women’s Organiser aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Seyram Betty Krosbi Mensah, has described the appointment of Dr. Pamela Graham as Ghana’s first female Auditor-General as a landmark achievement for women’s leadership and a major step towards gender inclusion in public governance.
In a congratulatory statement following Dr. Graham’s swearing-in by John Dramani Mahama, Krosbi Mensah said the appointment demonstrates the growing recognition of competent women for high-level constitutional offices and reflects the government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women in leadership.
She noted that Dr. Graham’s elevation to head the Ghana Audit Service marks a defining moment in the country’s governance history, expressing confidence that the new Auditor-General possesses the expertise and integrity required to strengthen accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.
“This appointment is more than a personal triumph; it is a resounding statement that women are capable, competent and, when given the opportunity, lead with excellence and distinction,” she said.
According to the former legislator, Dr. Graham’s appointment sends a powerful message to young girls and women across Ghana that hard work, competence and merit remain pathways to national leadership.
Mrs Krosbi Mensah further commended President Mahama for what she described as the practical implementation of the Affirmative Action Act through the appointment of more women to strategic public offices, saying such decisions are gradually breaking long-standing barriers to women’s participation in governance.
She expressed optimism that Dr. Graham would leave a lasting legacy at the Office of the Auditor-General by strengthening public financial accountability and safeguarding the prudent use of state resources.
“As you assume this important constitutional responsibility, I have no doubt that you will leave an indelible footprint on the Office of the Auditor-General and contribute significantly to Ghana’s pursuit of transparency and accountability,” she stated.
She wished the new Auditor-General wisdom, strength and integrity in the discharge of her constitutional mandate, describing the appointment as a victory not only for Dr. Graham but for women across the country who aspire to leadership and public service.
Dr. Pamela Graham’s appointment makes her the first woman to serve as Auditor-General since the establishment of the office, a development widely viewed as a significant milestone in advancing women’s representation in Ghana’s constitutional and governance institutions.
