Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has underscored the critical role of effective parliamentary oversight in promoting accountability and transparency in the management of Ghana’s national resources.
The legislator made the remarks after participating in a capacity-building programme for Members of Parliament serving on Parliament’s Assurances Committee over the weekend.

According to madam Aubynn, the training reinforced the importance of rigorous monitoring of government commitments and compliance with parliamentary assurances, describing it as a vital step towards strengthening Parliament’s oversight mandate.
She noted that presentations by former Majority Leader Cletus Avoka and governance expert Dr. Nancy Myles highlighted the implications of non-compliance with assurances given to Parliament and the need for robust monitoring mechanisms to improve governance.
“The knowledge gained from this session has further strengthened my resolve to contribute meaningfully to the work of the Assurances Committee,” Aubynn said, adding that she is committed to working with colleagues to promote accountability and enhance Parliament’s oversight responsibilities.
She emphasized that effective scrutiny of government agencies and institutions is essential to ensuring prudent use of public resources and improving public confidence in governance.
The Assurances Committee is one of Parliament’s key oversight committees mandated to monitor promises, undertakings and assurances made by ministers and other public officials on the floor of Parliament. The committee follows up to ensure such commitments are fulfilled within stipulated timelines, thereby strengthening accountability in the public sector.
