The Women’s Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professionals Forum (Proforum) has called for peace, unity and discipline among party faithful as the party begins its internal elections across various structures.
NDC-ProForum Women’s Commissioner, Sophia Ama OtabirIn a statement signed by Women’s Commissioner, Sophia Ama Otabir, the caucus urged aspirants, delegates and party leadership to approach the elections as a process to deepen party cohesion and strengthen the NDC ahead of future national contests especially the 2028 general elections.
Describing the internal polls as a defining moment in the party’s democratic journey, the women emphasized that the branch, constituency, regional and national elections, culminating in presidential primaries, must be conducted in an atmosphere of respect, fairness and issue-based campaigning.

The group cautioned against rising tensions, divisive rhetoric and acts of indiscipline that have the potential to undermine party unity, urging that internal elections should not be reduced to platforms for hostility and intimidation.
“Internal elections are not battlegrounds for division but platforms to strengthen our structures and reaffirm our shared commitment to the ideals of the NDC,” the statement said.
The NDC- Proforum Women urged all aspirants to place party unity above personal ambition and called on delegates to vote conscientiously while resisting undue influence.
The caucus also appealed to party leadership to enforce the rules governing the elections fairly and decisively, while urging election committees and security agencies to ensure peaceful and transparent processes.
The caucus expressed concern that internal divisions, if poorly managed, could weaken the party’s public image and electoral fortunes, urging members to draw lessons from developments in other political parties and avoid actions that could fracture the NDC’s unity.
According to the group, the internal elections must be seen not merely as a contest for positions, but as an opportunity to demonstrate the party’s democratic maturity and readiness for the future.
The statement reaffirmed the NDC’s core values of probity, accountability, social justice and solidarity, calling on members to embody those principles throughout the electoral process.
The Proforum women’s caucus early intervention seeks to shape the process around consensus, discipline and collective purpose rather than factional rivalry.
The statement concluded by urging party faithful to remain focused on building a stronger and more united NDC, insisting that peace and unity must remain the foundation of the party’s internal democratic process.
