Ewurabena Aubynn Pushes for Faster Nuclear Power Rollout to Support 24-Hour Economy

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has renewed calls for accelerated progress on Ghana’s nuclear power programme, describing it as a critical component for sustaining industrial growth and supporting the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
The MP renewed the call when the Minister for Energy and Green Transition appeared before Parliament’s Government Assurances Committee on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to respond to commitments previously made to the House.
During proceedings, the Ablekuma North lawmaker posed a public interest question to the Minister, seeking clarity on the stage Ghana has reached in its nuclear power development process.
She noted that many industry stakeholders believe nuclear energy offers one of the most reliable and safe sources of baseload power needed to drive large-scale industrialisation and ensure stable electricity supply for continuous economic activity.
According to the Ablekuma North legislator, achieving the government’s ambition of a round-the-clock economy will require dependable power generation that can support factories, services and businesses operating beyond traditional hours.
Her intervention highlighted growing interest among policymakers and energy sector players in diversifying Ghana’s energy mix with long-term solutions capable of meeting rising demand.
Parliament’s oversight role through the Government Assurances Committee is expected to continue monitoring progress on key energy commitments, including the development of nuclear power infrastructure and related agreements with international partners.
Hon Aubynn’s advocacy reflects broader discussions within energy sector stakeholders on how strategic energy investments can strengthen the country’s industrial base and improve power reliability in the years ahead.
