In a show of statesmanship, the Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has formally withdrawn and apologised to the Interior Minister, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, over allegations that the 2025/2026 recruitment exercises into the security services were riddled with scams.
Addressing Parliament at the start of proceedings on Wednesday March 4, 2026, Mr Afenyo-Markin said he regretted any impression that his earlier comments had tarnished the reputation of the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka.
He explained that he had no intention of specifically accusing the minister or injuring the reputation of the ministry, emphasizing that if his earlier remarks created such an impression, they were fully withdrawn.
Following the apology, the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor who presided over proceedings, announced that the earlier referral of the Minority Leader to Parliament’s Privileges and Immunities Committee had been withdrawn and further directed that the allegations be expunged from the official records of the House.
Responding to the apology, Mr Muntaka said the allegations had been painful because they suggested wrongdoing, but accepted the Effutu lawmaker’s regret in good faith.
The Asawase MP urged his colleagues to remain respectful in their criticisms while working collectively to ensure accountability in public service.
