Sisala East MP Advocates Power Expansion to Accelerate Community Growth

The Member of Parliament for Sisala East, Mohammed Issah Bataglia, is advocating the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to prioritise the extension of electricity to unserved communities in his constituency as part of government’s drive toward universal access. His call follows a parliamentary question he posed to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition on Friday, February 20, 2026, seeking updates on plans to connect several off-grid communities in the Sisala East Constituency of the Upper West Region to the national electricity grid.
The MP specifically inquired about government’s plans to extend power supply to Santijan, Gbenabisi, Kalaxy, Nahadokui, Kapunjan, Tanla, Nitalu, Kwapung, Wuru, Dinduarijan, Katinia and other surrounding communities that are yet to benefit from rural electrification projects.

The lawmaker also sought to know the status of work on the Baweisiboi and Kormor rural electrification project in in the area.

Responding to the questions on behalf of the sector minister, Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, informed the House that the listed communities do not form part of any ongoing rural electrification projects being implemented by the ministry in the constituency.
He explained that while the communities are currently not captured under existing programmes, they would be considered in subsequent electrification phases when funds become available, in line with government’s broader objective of achieving nationwide electricity coverage.
“The communities ( do not form part of the Ministry’s current rural electrification programme in the Sisala East Constituency of the Upper West Region. However, these communities will be considered in subsequent electrification programmes when funds become available,” the Deputy Minister stated.
In his response, Mr. Bataglia informed the House that he has already submitted formal applications to the ministry on behalf of the affected communities, adding that bills of quantities have been prepared and forwarded to the Minister’s office to facilitate swift implementation once financial approval is secured.
The MP expressed optimism that Sisala East would receive favourable consideration in upcoming electrification allocations, noting that reliable access to electricity is critical to improving education, healthcare delivery, small-scale businesses and overall socio-economic development in the area.
His appeal underscores ongoing efforts by lawmakers to ensure equitable distribution of infrastructure development as government continues to work toward universal electricity access across the country.
