The government of Ghana has submitted to Parliament contract agreements for the acquisition of four helicopters and a presidential jet for the Ghana Air Force (GAF).
The first agreement, between the Ministry of Defence and Airbus Helicopter (SAS) of France, is valued at €125.97 million and covers the supply of one H160 and three H175 helicopters, whiles the second agreement, worth $60.68 million, is a sale and purchase contract with Dassault Aviation of France for a Falcon 6X aircraft.
The Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako who presided over proceedings on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 referred the agreements presented by Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi to the committee on Defence and Interior to be joined by the leadership of the Finance Committee for consideration and report.
Foreign Affairs minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa told Parliament that President John Dramani Mahama had adopted a prudent approach by flying commercial for all international trips as the House approves the sum of GH₵1.70 billion in budget estimates for the Ministry.
According to him, the expenditure on charter flights under the previous administration could have purchased a new presidential jet as analysed by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, claiming that the current plan to invest in aircraft for the GAF was a more responsible use of public resources.
Second Deputy Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu criticised the allocation of over GH₵13 billion for the procurement of four helicopters and two luxury jets, urging the reallocation of those funds to the Foreign Affairs Ministry for its activities.
The Tolon MP also accused the foreign minister over what he described as his inconsistency and silence on the aircraft acquisition as compared to his past advocacy against the erstwhile regime.
