Convenor of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi, has challenged the government to disclose the identities and whereabouts of the key figures behind illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, October 25, 2025 monitored by NR NR NEWS, Mr. Hosi questioned the government’s resolve in fighting the menace, saying Ghanaians deserve to know who the real perpetrators are.
“Please, where are the galamsey kingpins? We must remind the government that we’re still waiting for them,” he said.
His comments come amid renewed debate over the effectiveness of anti-galamsey efforts and concerns that influential figures remain untouched.
Meanwhile, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested 10 armed Chinese nationals allegedly engaged in illegal mining at Abusa in the Ashanti Region.
The October 23 operation, conducted with the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), also led to the arrest of nine impostors posing as National Security operatives. Officers seized weapons, ammunition, and handcuffs, and foiled an attempt to bribe them with GH₵120,000.
Authorities say illegal miners had built settlements deep within the Oda River Forest Reserve, which were later destroyed to prevent reoccupation.
