The 2024/25 National Service cohort at the Gold Fields Tarkwa Mine has demonstrated remarkable compassion and community spirit through a series of impactful charitable initiatives aimed at supporting persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.
As part of their charity drive, the group renovated and painted the Hooper Memorial Basic School Special Unit, transforming it into a more vibrant and welcoming learning environment for pupils with special needs.
Beyond the physical transformation, the team also took their advocacy to the airwaves, hosting a radio sensitisation programme to raise awareness about the daily realities faced by people living with disabilities.
The discussion highlighted practical measures individuals and communities can take to reduce stigma and promote inclusion.
The volunteers also spent time interacting with pupils and school staff, sharing meals and experiences that fostered understanding and empathy.
In another act of generosity, the cohort visited the Angels of Hope Orphanage Home, where they donated household items, educational materials, and food supplies.
The visit was crowned with a heartfelt gesture — the presentation of a wheelchair to a young boy with mobility challenges, offering him renewed independence and hope.
The management of Gold Fields Tarkwa Mine commended the cohort for their dedication, empathy, and commitment to fostering inclusive development and community wellbeing.
