The 2024 Ghana Energy Awards culminated in a night of celebration, with Kojo Aduhene, Chairman and CEO of LMI Holdings, taking home the prestigious Energy Personality of the Year award in the male category.
Nana Akua Agyei, Head of Legal at the Petroleum Commission, secured the same top accolade in the female category. These honours highlighted their exceptional contributions to Ghana’s energy sector.
The ceremony, held in Accra on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Labadi Beach Hotel and organized by the Energy Media Group (EMG), saw 34 individuals and companies recognized for their roles in driving growth and innovation within the sector.
This year’s theme, “The Role of Local Content in Building Ghana’s Energy Sector,” emphasized the importance of local participation in advancing the country’s energy objectives.
Other Notable Winners
Dr Edwin Alfred Nii Obodai Provencal, Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST), was named CEO of the Year in the Petroleum category, while Hon. Ing. Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, CEO of Bui Power Authority, took home the CEO of the Year award in the Power category.
Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid, CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), received the Visionary Leadership of the Year award, recognized for his forward-thinking contributions to the energy sector.
Endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and the World Energy Council Ghana, the 8th edition of the Ghana Energy Awards featured 31 competitive categories and seven non-competitive honours, showcasing the strategic importance of the energy industry to the nation’s economy.
VRA was recognized with the following awards: Energy Company of the Year – Power, Outstanding Local Content Initiative of the Year, and Local Content Leadership Impact.
Local content legacy achievement of the year went to Dr. Ben KD Asante, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company
Chamber of Petroleum Consumers was adjudged the Energy Think Tank of the Year.
Chairman of the GEA Awards panel, Lawyer Kwame Jantuah, praised the event’s focus, saying, “Once Ghana discovered oil, one of the major things we needed to look at was how local companies can participate in this newfound resource. It was crucial that this year’s theme focused on the role of local content in building Ghana’s energy sector.”
Event Director, Ing. Henry Teinor, added that the awards not only celebrate individual and organizational excellence but also promote industry operations, further contributing to the overall improvement of the national economy.
The night, graced by the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, brought together the finest from Ghana’s energy sector in a vibrant ceremony that underscored the pivotal role of collaboration between local and foreign stakeholders in achieving Ghana’s energy goals.
