The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has held high-level discussions with the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) to review its performance in 2025 and outline strategic priorities for 2026 as part of Ghana’s evolving energy framework.
The meeting focused on WAPCo’s operational delivery over the past year, which the Minister described as vital to sustaining gas supply and enhancing regional energy security across West Africa.
Dr. Jinapor emphasised that natural gas remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s Gas-to-Power Policy, providing reliable fuel for electricity generation for homes, businesses and industry.
He noted that closer collaboration with WAPCo would be critical to optimising gas supply capacity, improving system reliability and supporting future infrastructure expansion to meet rising energy demand.
According to the Minister, stable gas flows are essential not only for power sector stability but also for controlling energy costs and reducing reliance on more expensive alternative fuels.
Dr. Jinapor added that strengthening partnerships with regional energy infrastructure operators is in line with government’s broader objective of ensuring a secure, efficient and sustainable energy transition, while keeping electricity affordable and supporting national economic growth.
Officials of WAPCo, for their part, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining high operational standards and working closely with the Ministry to support Ghana’s energy security and green transition agenda.
The engagement forms part of the Ministry’s wider push to deepen regional cooperation and build resilience across Ghana’s energy supply chain as the sector is positioned for the year ahead.
