Acivil society organisation, A ROCHA Ghana has intensified its campaign against Legislative Instrument (LI) 2462 with a new public-facing initiative designed to deepen civic engagement and pressure the government to revoke, rather than amend, the controversial law.
On Monday, the environmental advocacy group kicked off a two-day outreach across Accra, taking its message directly to the streets to educate the public on the implications of LI 2462 and to collect physical signatures for its “Do Ghana Good 2.0” petition.
The campaign is aimed at showcasing the widespread opposition to the LI, which many believe weakens protections for Ghana’s forest reserves.
According to A Rocha Ghana, the signature drive complements the rapidly growing online petition and is intended to promote inclusivity by giving ordinary Ghanaians a tangible way to support the cause.
“We deemed it best to include the physical signatures of the general public in addition to the petition to be presented to the President, John Mahama,” the group stated. “This is intended to promote inclusion and to further depict the magnitude of people involved in this campaign.”
The group’s teams were stationed at key intersections and landmarks across the capital, engaging with pedestrians and commuters to raise awareness about the environmental risks posed by the LI.
Locations to be visited on the first day included Madina, Atomic Roundabout, the Accra Mall area, and the 37 Military Hospital bus stop.
In the coming days, the campaign will continue to other parts of the city, including Osu, Ridge, the Ministries area, Circle, Adabraka, and Central Accra.
This public outreach follows earlier efforts by A Rocha Ghana and its allies, which included formal petitions submitted to President Mahama, the Lands Minister, and the Speaker of Parliament. The consistent demand has been clear: a complete revocation of LI 2462, not a mere amendment.
As the moving caravan makes its way through Accra, A Rocha Ghana is calling on all concerned citizens to join in and help sustain the pressure.
