Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has called on the country’s lawmakers to as a matter of urgency approve the 2025 budget estimates to enable government implement important economic policies and programmes to promote growth and development.
Dr Foson who made the call last Saturday 15 March 2025 at the opening ceremony of a three Day Post-Budget Workshop for Members of Parliament in Accra said the support of the lawmakers is necessary to operationalize the measures set out for achieving fiscal growth and stability.
“We have outlined a number of revenue and expenditure measures in the 2025 budget to support the achievement of our fiscal objectives and targets. And we would like to call on this esteemed House, particularly my colleagues, the Members of Parliament, to support these measures and the passage of the various legislations that will operationalise the measures as soon as possible.”, Dr Forson stated.
According to him, key initiatives like the Agriculture for Economic Transformation, the creation of the Ghana Gold Board, the Big Push project and the 24-hour economy have been designed to drive sustainable economic growth for the country.
“Some initiatives that we have proposed for implementation in this budget are as follows: we are proposing to roll out the 24-hour economy policy to support inclusive growth and job creation. We also propose to roll out the GH¢10 billion Big Push policy beginning this year.
“We are proposing the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board to support foreign exchange inflows and gold reserve accumulation to benefit our dear country,” Ato Forson said.
The appeal by Dr Forson who is also the Member of Parliament for Ejumako Enyam Essiam comes ahead of the debate on the policy underpinnings of the budget even as the various estimates for ministries, departments and agencies follows in the coming days.
The post budget workshop is aimed at exposing the lawmakers to the major issues outlined in the budget to enable them appreciate the issues as they exercise their power over the purse functions.
