The Member of Parliament for Kintampo North, Joseph Kwame Kumah, has called on government to establish a multipurpose sporting facility in Kintampo to honour the municipality’s rich sporting heritage and nurture emerging talent.
Contributing to a statement on the Sports Development Fund Bill in Parliament, he described the legislation as a major step toward sustainable sports financing.
In a show of commitment, he pledged GH¢30,000 over the next three months to the Fund and announced that he would also donate part of his salary to support its objectives.
The MP noted that Kintampo, regarded as the geographical centre of Ghana, has produced some of the nation’s finest athletes but lacks the infrastructure to sustain and develop young prospects. He cited football legends such as Baba Yara, Dogo Moro, and former Black Stars captain Kwasi Owusu, stressing that their hometown deserves a befitting national sports facility.
He argued that beyond an AstroTurf pitch, Kintampo needs a professional-grade stadium to serve as a training and scouting hub for the Bono and middle belt regions, helping to decentralise sports development from Accra.
According to him, investing in such infrastructure would preserve the legacy of the area’s sporting icons while promoting youth empowerment, economic growth and social transformation in the municipality.
