Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee of Ghana’s Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East in the Greater Accra region, Naser Toure Mahama, has passed away at the age of 60.
Mr Toure Mahama, a four-term legislator on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reportedly died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
Born in Kue in the Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region, Mr Toure Mahama had served in Parliament since the Sixth Parliament and was widely regarded as an experienced legislator, particularly on energy and infrastructure-related matters. Until his demise, he was Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, contributing to parliamentary oversight and policy discussions in the energy sector.
In addition to his role on the Energy Committee, Mr Toure Mahama served on several other key parliamentary committees, including the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, and the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.
He had a strong academic and professional background. His educational qualifications included a Diploma from the London Centre of Management (Zane Investments Ghana) obtained in 2009, a Master of Arts in Marketing from the International University of the United States in 2014, and specialised training in Petroleum Regulation and Licensing from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy in the same year.
He also undertook executive training in Managing and Negotiating Upstream Petroleum Agreements at the International Human Resources Development Corporation (IHRDC) in Boston, USA.
Before and alongside his parliamentary career, Mr Toure Mahama worked in the private sector, serving as Chief Executive Officer of OTA Forex Bureau and Aminaser Oil Company Limited.
The late legislator is expected to be laid to rest later on Sunday in Accra, in accordance with Islamic burial rites.
Tributes are expected to pour in from Parliament, the NDC party, and constituents of Ayawaso East, as colleagues and supporters mourn the loss of a seasoned lawmaker and public servant.
