Two Suspects Arrested in Crackdown on Illegal Mining at Prankese,

Two people who were spotted engaged in active illegal mining at Prankese in the Birim North area on Saturday have been arrested.

They were arrested by NAIMOS Taskforce, which had been deployed in the Eastern Region.

They have been identified as Li Yongjin and Nou Chin Haw. They were arrested on Saturday, December 3, 2026 at about 9:45 am.

According to a statement issued by the NAIMOS taskforce, the illegal activities of the two foreign nationals have caused significant destruction of forests and cocoa farmlands in the area and severely polluted local streams including the Birim River.

The Taskforce immobilised two excavators used by the two illegal miners by removing their Monitors and Control Boards to render them ineffective due to immediate unavailability of Lowbed services to the team.

Additionally, the team seized one Toyota TUNDRA Pickup with Registration number AS 8120 -20 found at the site and used by the two foreigner illegal miners.
