Land remains Ghana’s most valuable natural resource and the foundation for sustainable development, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, has declared.
The deputy minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Bole–Bamboi, made the statement on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Busunu while delivering the keynote address at the maiden Annual Busunu Homecoming Durbar, held under the theme “Natural Resources as Our Wealth: Harnessing Them for the Present and the Future.”
Alhaji Sulemana underscored the central role of land in driving community prosperity, stressing that its effective management is critical to meeting both present and future development needs. He advocated an integrated approach anchored on sound planning, robust governance systems and active citizen participation.
As part of efforts to improve land administration, the Deputy Minister called for the establishment of Stool Lands Secretariats in all traditional areas, describing them as vital institutions for enhancing transparency, strengthening accountability and preventing land-related disputes.
The Paramount Chief of the Busunu Traditional Area, Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II, used the occasion to renew an appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise key development projects for the area.
Among the requests were the establishment of a STEM-focused Girls’ Senior High School, the upgrading of the Busunu Health Centre into a fully equipped polyclinic with a maternity ward and theatre, and the creation of sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.
Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II further urged the President to include the proposed school among the first batch of new senior high schools to be procured, suggesting it be named Maame Nneba Girls’ Senior High School in honour of a distinguished daughter of the land and the biological mother of President John Dramani Mahama.
The chief recalled that a similar appeal for the upgrading of the Busunu Health Centre had been made during the President’s earlier visit to the traditional area, expressing hope that the request would now receive urgent consideration.
