Azumah Resources Fast-Tracks Black Volta, Sankofa Gold Projects, Targets 1,700 Sustainable Jobs

Azumah Resources Ghana is accelerating the development of its Black Volta and Sankofa gold concessions, a move expected to create about 1,700 sustainable jobs while strengthening local participation in Ghana’s mining sector.

The indigenous mining company says the projects mark a significant step toward large-scale gold production, with a strong focus on local content and long-term economic benefits.

Speaking on the sidelines of a signing ceremony with global engineering firm FLSmidth for the procurement of long-lead equipment, a director at Azumah Resources, Noel Nii Addo, underscored the importance of the agreement in keeping the projects on schedule.

“We are a locally owned mine, the first of its kind, and we want to get everything right from the start. We don’t want trial and error,” he said.

Addo explained that early acquisition of critical processing and plant equipment is key to construction readiness and operational efficiency. According to him, the company has secured top-tier equipment to ensure high-quality operations.

“At full capacity, we are looking at about 1,700 sustainable jobs. This is not short-term employment. The mine has an 11-year life span, so you can imagine the impact,” he added.

He further highlighted the expansion potential of the concessions, noting that only about 20 per cent of the total concession area has so far been explored.

“As mining progresses, further exploration will continue. This will significantly boost development across the Wa area and the wider Upper West Region,” he said.

The agreement with FLSmidth positions Azumah Resources to deliver timely project execution while contributing meaningfully to economic growth and job creation in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
