Manso Nkwanta MP Urges Government to Fast-Track Classroom Projects

The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region, Tweneboah Kodua Fokuo, has appealed to the government to expedite work on the construction of two six-unit classroom blocks at Essuowim and Yawhemekrom in the Amansie West District.

The MP made the call on Thursday, October 30, 2025, on the floor of Parliament after posing a question to the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. Ahmed Ibrahim, on the status of the projects.

The two classroom blocks were awarded in April 2024 under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Project (IPEP), an initiative aimed at bridging development gaps across the country.

Responding to the question, Minister Ahmed Ibrahim explained that the projects were among several awarded by the erstwhile Ministry for Special Development Initiatives through the Middle Belt Development Authority (MBDA) during the closing stages of the previous administration.

He revealed that, according to the handing-over notes from the former government, the projects at Essuowim and Yawhemekrom had not commenced and currently stood at zero percent completion.

The ministry has begun a nationwide inventory of all such uncompleted projects to facilitate their continuation by the respective Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.11

He reaffirmed the Mahama administration’s commitment to completing all legacy projects, explaining that 20 percent of releases to the various assemblies through the District Assemblies Common Fund have been earmarked for this purpose.

However, Hon. Fokuo expressed concern over reports that only a three-unit classroom block had been constructed at one of the sites, contrary to the six-unit block that was originally awarded. “I have in my possession documents dated April 2024 confirming that the contract was for a six-unit classroom block,” the MP stated, urging the Minister to investigate the discrepancy.

In a related appeal, the Manso Nkwanta legislator also called for the speedy completion of an astroturf project in his constituency. He commended the contractor for demonstrating professionalism in the execution of the project but urged the ministry to consider a variation of the contract to include spectator stands.

“The inclusion of stands will provide seating for dignitaries and community members during sporting and other social events,” Hon. Fokuo noted.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to championing the development needs of the Manso Nkwanta constituency and urged the government to prioritise education and sports infrastructure to enhance opportunities for the youth.
