The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has commenced public hearings on the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report covering the accounts of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for the year ending December 31, 2024.
Committee Chairperson, Abena Osei Asare, recused herself from chairing the proceedings and handed the role to Ranking Member Samuel Atta-Mills.
She explained that her decision was to strengthen the governance process, since she served in the previous administration whose accounts are under review.
Mrs. Osei Asare, who is also the Member of Parliament for Atewa West, assured the public of the committee’s resolve to ensure that infractions flagged in the report are not repeated. She urged duty bearers to take greater responsibility in preventing future occurrences.
Proceedings of day one commenced with the Ghana Statistical Service.
The committee is currently reviewing the accounts of the Ministry of Health, its agencies including health institutions.
Over the next three days, PAC will examine reports from several other ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.
The rest are; Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Transport.
