The Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya in the Ashanti Region, Frank Yeboah, is in Abuja, Nigeria, attending the 11th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the West Africa Association of Public Accounts Committees (WAAPAC).
Mr. Yeboah announced his participation in a Facebook post on Monday, September 8, 2025, noting that the week-long meeting, which runs from September 8 to 13, is focusing on the theme: “Strengthening Parliamentary Oversight of Public Debt: The Role of Finance and Public Accounts Committees.”
He described public debt as one of the most pressing challenges confronting West African countries and emphasized the critical role of legislators in ensuring that borrowing is done responsibly, transparently, and in line with national development priorities.
“As representatives of our people, it is our duty to ensure that borrowing is responsible, transparent and directed toward the true development needs of our countries,” the MP said.
Mr. Yeboah, who serves on Ghana’s Public Accounts Committee, stressed that the conference provides a valuable platform for sharing experiences, learning best practices, and building stronger mechanisms to protect the public purse.
“The lessons and best practices we share here will go a long way in strengthening our work back home ensuring that every cedi borrowed and spent is accounted for in the interest of the Ghanaian people,” he added.
The Atwima Nwabiagya lawmaker said he looked forward to fruitful conversations, collaborations, and actionable ideas during the week-long deliberations, all geared toward promoting accountability and good governance across the subregion.
