The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has extended warm congratulations to Prof Nana Ama Brown Klutse on her recent appointment as a board member of the Petroleum Commission of Ghana.
A respected climate scientist and advocate for sustainable development, Professor Klutse’s appointment marks a significant milestone in the nation’s efforts to balance energy development with environmental stewardship.
Her new role at the Petroleum Commission is seen as a strategic move to bring a deeper environmental perspective into Ghana’s energy policy and regulatory space.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday 20 August , the Environmental Authority Ghana wrote: “Kudos to Professor Nana Ama Brown Klutse on her appointment as a board member of the Petroleum Commission! Wishing her continued success in this new role!”
Professor Klutse, a former lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports and a distinguished academic at the University of Ghana, has long been recognized for her research on climate variability and her advocacy for climate resilience in Africa.
Her appointment has been widely praised by environmentalists, academics, and policy experts, who see her presence on the board as a promising development for ensuring that Ghana’s petroleum sector progresses with a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The Petroleum Commission is responsible for the regulation and management of the upstream petroleum sector in Ghana.
With Professor Klutse joining the board, stakeholders hope to see more inclusive decision-making that reflects global best practices in energy transition and climate adaptation.

Meanwhile the former Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Ernest Thompson, has been appointed Chairman of the reconstituted board of the Ghana Petroleum Commission.
- He will work with six other members to steer the affairs of the Commission.
The members include Chief Executive, Victoria Emeafa Hardcastle; Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, Crisler Akwei Ankrah, Joseph Kwasi Mensah, Dr. Hasiyatu Abubakari, and Hassan Thompson Osman.
