Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners Mourn Eight Helicopter Crash Victims

The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Government of Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), and the families of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a recent helicopter crash.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Godwin Nickleson Amarh, the association expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident.

“We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate event, and our hearts go out to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. We pray for the peaceful repose of their souls and strength for the bereaved families during this difficult period,” the statement read.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Brofoyedu in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of all eight individuals on board—three crew members and five passengers.

The victims were identified as Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

In response to the tragedy, President John Dramani Mahama has declared a three-day national mourning period starting Thursday, August 7, 2025.

GNASSM reaffirmed its solidarity with the Government, the NDC, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the bereaved families, stating: “May the memories of the departed public servants and military personnel be forever cherished and honored.”
